I don’t know if that’s enough room to describe the 70 hours of HD footage we painstakingly condensed into one action-packed hour of powderfilled backcountry skiing. Now I’ve already wasted two sentences. Down to business: We spent last winter breaking trail into the backcountry with some of the top telemark skiers in the world like Nick DeVore, Andy Jacobsen, Jason West, Will Cardamone, Megan Michelson, JT Robinson, Dylan Crossman and many others. Each fall a sense of anxiety creeps into the minds of skiers. As the weather cools we obsessively begin checking web cams, peering out windows and aimlessly driving up mountain roads in search of the first snow. When those first flakes hit the ground we grab our gear and head for the hills. Whether it’s setting up a rail at the base or hiking the trails before the chair spins, we’re just stoked to be back on the snow.
Rage has always been about exposing the hottest up-and-coming stars and showcasing all aspects of freeskiing. This season was no different with new and veteran athletes working harder than ever to bring you the most progressive tricks from handrails to backcountry cliffs. We tactfully planned our season to camp out at select locations until everything was hit, new tricks were stomped and everyone was ready to move on.
Freeskiing is as much about the kids skiing 200ft Ski hills, as it is about tackling big mountain lines. That is why in producing this Ski film we made sure to showcase the sport in all its diversity. Whether it’s a 6:00am hike on a two foot pow day in the Wasatch or a midnight rail session in Minnesota, our cinematographers were there capturing the moments.

Warren Miller’s 58th feature film is guarenteed to keep you on the edge of your seat. Travel to Colorado, Alaska, British Columbia, Sweden, Japan and even the desert dunes of Dubai in search of something to impress the powder junkies who have seen it all.
Find a new crop of treacherous descents reachable only by air. They tag along with fearless cliff jumpers and nimble snowboarders. They outrun avalanches and hang with whoever’s currently making a name shredding the slopes. And of course, everything is set to a high-voltage soundtrack pumped full of bands like Radio Citizen, Maroon 5, Beastie Boys and Queens of the Stone Age.
Less expected, but successfully done, are some quieter moments including a profile of Bode Miller in an ankle-deep portrait of the controversial downhill racer. Scenes from a visit to Japan amaze not with daredevil stunts but with shimmering visuals that gave the effect of skiing inside of Japanese painting. Warren Miller’s voice is heard in a few vintage snippets, but for the most part it’s Jonny Moseley’s ski-dude narration that sets the tone. This fits well with a goofy segment celebrating Brigham Young University’s makeshift "water weenie" toboggan and is suited to describe Dubai, where a massive indoor ski resort is brought to the screen with mind blowing results.

In 2008, Rage Films witnessed an unbelievable year that was unsurpassed by others as Rage won award after award, including Best Core Film at X-Dance and Best Film at IF3. Epic amounts of snow yielded huge jumps, gnarly lines and exploratory trips around the world. Athletes threw tricks they have never done before, break through performances were caught on film, and some just learned how to travel with dependents (even if it was a ferret), but most importantly, the ante was upped for progressive skiing and cinematography.
